something different...

So  where's that summary I promised? Oops. I've been doing a fair few things of late, and one is preparing for this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/samsung-glaxy-note-4-custom-rom-wish-t2875689

This week, I give you MY thread. This is a wish list of features that anyone can freely contribute to (with reason) for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, seeing as it was high-profile until the iPhone 6 was announced.

If you'd like to contribute, you'll get a better response if you go to the thread, but comment anyhow. Remember to share this Twitter and G+, and that is it.

Phew.

Summary #2: 6.9.14

So I missed a week and I'm a day late. At least I turned up with 3 Bits and 1 Byte. So check it out. I've got ROMs, I've got mods, and a little XDA admin. So check out this week's Summary:

Bits (3)

If you ever want to use a custom ROM, you have this, or this choice. So check it out. It has all the typical features of a good-quality custom ROM, but it doesn't do it for me for it doesn't have It. It is what a great-quality ROM needs. It are those extra features that make ROMs cool. This ROM is not cool. It just is. Don't let me influence you, check it out yourself.

New Forums:
If you've been following IFA in Berlin, you might have noticed that a crazy number of devices have been announced, from Sony's Xperia Z3, to the HTC Desire 820, and the Galaxy Note 4 by Samsung. Forums for these, and others, are now available. Enjoy it.

So I had a G-Watch ROM. Here's the Gear Live ROM. As in, the only Gear Live ROM thus far on XDA. Like my G-Watch ROM pick, it doesn't add anything really extra. I'm not going to rant again, but I'm not too enthusiastic. I'm sure, like the G-Watch ROM, it's good, but... Yeah, it's not exciting.

Bytes (1)

Android just isn't Android unless you can modify it and make it yours. This sweet tool from the Nexus 5 threads. It lets you change the font all across your Android device. You can only use set font packs - although these fonts are many and beautiful. Oh yes, no Comic Sans. Dammit.

At any rate, this is a great new way to customise your phone. I've talked about (or will talk about in the future) themes, launchers, and UX-altering ROMs, but this is really kind of different. And very cool. This has my thumbs-up. Please, go try it.

Did you enjoy this piece? Any suggestions for the future? Or do you just want to talk fonts? Leave us a comment below. Thank you for reading.

In Depth Look: Boot Up

Sorry I missed last week's Summary, but I was travelling and more or less spark out between 7 and 8 UK time, so sorry. New one this week, plenty of content a-waiting. Anyway, here's something fun I found during my round of the feeds this morning:

Interesting, right? If you've ever wondered what happens when your Windows Phone boots up, you now have the answer. This thread takes you through the boot process of Windows Phone 8, step-by-step, and explains why it is so hard (if not impossible) to unlock a WP bootloader.

Or, if you can't be bothered with the bevy of technical terms in the thread, here's a little info-graphic for you, which basically sums it up.

Any thoughts on the boot process? Suggestions for future IDLs? Do you have further insight? Leave us a comment below.
